Prose 2 : 'Nothingness' Present Inside 'Something'

'Nothingness' Present Inside 'Something'
                                                          - T ABRAHAM

We usually say 'I don't have anymore oil for the fries' or 'I do not have anymore water to kill your thirst'. We usually negate about the things we do not have or the quantity which is absent. At least once in your lifetime have you ever thought about how something is present and we have everything at a point of time and then it descends into nothingness. So, here we are going to ponder upon the idea of the existence of 'nothingness' inside something and how we define the 'absence' or 'presence' of any physical entity.

The terms 'nothing', 'something', 'anything' and 'everything' are used by people to denote the presence or absence of the thing of their interest. Firstly, the term 'thing' is used to denote any living or non-living entity that is in need or also for our greed as well. This particular entity need not be in plentitude but is available in some amount. The quantity is usually measured using units to be more precise in attaining the required amount. So, here we do not delve into the measurements but we get into the existence of the material of interest.

Firstly, the term 'nothing' is used to describe the absence of any required material of interest or the absence of the entity of our interest. This term is not to be confused with the Shakespearean romantic comedy titled 'Much Ado About Nothing' where the term during the Elizabethan era was attributed to the term 'noting'. Let's focus upon the term on an everyday usage. The term 'nothing' is used almost universally and it is seen that this 'nothing' is present inside 'something' to declare it's absence. For example, imagine you are inside your house and you are standing inside your kitchen and you want to make 'French fries' for your tea time snacks. You come to know that you don't have any oil left for making your delicious fries. You describe your situation as 'Since, I don't have any oil left I won't  be able to make fries today'. But pause here for a moment, you are just interested in describing the absence but did you think upon whether there was any oil before it went into the state of 'nothingness' and what was containing the 'oil' to describe it's nothingness?

Many a times we usually don't think what was containing the entity we need before the state of nothingness. This nothingness is something that cannot exist without something containing it within itself. Here the bottle's emptiness is used to define the nothingness of the cooking oil but oil is present everywhere, it is present in the readymade bakery snacks items present currently at home but the issue is the need for the oil in it's pure state. So, oil is present in something, that is, the bottle and oil is present in everything, that is, in all the other food stuffs present in one's home.

The presence of something is needed to define nothingness and the nothingness is created from something and it is clearly evident from the creation of this whole universe by the Almighty. The universe is something that a man cannot think of creating and it is an awe-inspiring creation by God. The statement of 'nothingness inside something' is addressed well with the concept of creation as it is known to us all that the universe was created out of nothingness but is now floating inside something and this something is the vacuum present in the space. So, the oil is present inside the bottle where something is present inside something and no oil is left inside the bottle where nothing is present inside something.

Then what about 'anything' and 'everything', do they both have any role to play with nothingness? Yes, they do at times, as the term 'anything' refers to any entity that is present in the immediate surrounding whereas the term 'everything' refers to all the entity present in a particular space.

So, when we need to relate these four terms we can relate them as, nothing is present inside something and anything can contain something and everything can contain anything, something or nothing. Hence, it is clear to us that each of the state of existence helps us in defining the one or the other but nothing is present inside something and anything if not present in our immediate surrounding we need something to have a premise upon it to define it's nothingness.
